HB Watertechnologie offers integrated climate adaptation solutions for a more resilient living environment and promotion of biodiversity.

What is Climate Adaptation?

"We are facing a warming climate and more extreme wet and dry periods. We must adapt our urban living environment to this as best we can, so that we can move with these changes," said Kris Bouhuijzen, director of HB Watertechnologie. "We call this climate adaptation. In the Netherlands, too, we face a warming climate and we all want a pleasant place to live, work or relax. Moreover, it is necessary for increasing biodiversity."

Translating policy into advice and realisation of solutions

Municipalities and water boards are pursuing policies to increase climate adaptation and biodiversity in urban renewal. All this leads to a strong increase in urban greenery. Maintaining this requires smart systems. HB Watertechnologie invents, realises and manages a combination of intelligent and high-tech solutions to current climate adaptation challenges and problems in and around the city.

Profile of HB Watertechnologie

"We are a knowledge and implementation partner that realises the most suitable solution with reliable and high-quality systems for greenery and water in and around the city," as Kris Bouhuijzen puts it. “Linking innovative techniques to climate-adaptive challenges ensures a positive experience of the city. We are a company characterised as collaborative, inspiring, committed and always looking for a long-term solution.”

Solutions for a climate-adaptive city

  • Achieve water retention on green/blue roofs and roof gardens incl. capillary action from rainwater retention system.
  • Rainwater collection and reuse systems.
  • Smart irrigation with sensors on roof gardens, in integrated planters and green facades.
  • Smart roof weirs for dynamic rainwater storage on roofs, intelligently retaining, reusing and delaying rainwater.
  • Make use of height differences in the project by cascading rainwater harvesting, e.g. from roof to roof and into a central retention pond.
  • Infiltration of rainwater on own plot.

Project examples:

  • Trudo Tower Eindhoven; application of a rainwater collection and reuse system incl. a smart irrigation system with sensors.
  • Lycka Amsterdam; dynamic rainwater storage with a smart roof weir (delayed rainwater discharge), rainwater collection and reuse system incl. a smart irrigation system with sensors.
